Celtic Football Club faces a critical challenge as they prepare to take on Hibernian this Sunday, October 26, at 12:00 pm. The team crashed, losing an unexpected match against city rival Dundee. Now, they sit five points adrift of the unbeaten Jambos, making it all the more urgent that they get back on track in the league.
Celtic’s encouraging first steps in the Europa League hold a flickering lamp of promise. Alfred Schreuder’s team managed to grind out a hard-fought victory against Sturm Graz winning 2-1. Regardless, Celtic was absolutely majestic in this tie. They’ll be hoping to match that level when they face Hibernian again on Thursday evening. Manager Brendan Rodgers sounded a hopeful note about his side’s ability to carry this momentum forward.
While the result in Europe was of course good news, the defeat to Dundee has shaken confidence amongst the camp. Rodgers conceded the shock value of that loss, especially in how it was done, underlining that they have to do better. He continued, “There really aren’t tough stages because it’s just about being better with [on] the inside.”
Beyond just righting the on-field product, Rodgers has a lot to overcome with injury hurdles. One player looks to have sustained an Achilles tear that will keep him out for three to five months.
“He looks like he’s done his Achilles, which can be anywhere between three and five months,” – Brendan Rodgers
This is a really difficult scenario for Celtic as they build up to a huge game against Hibernian—managed by Derek McInnes—on Sunday. Tynecastle has a fierce reputation, and historically, it’s one of the most intimidating and challenging places to go in football. After years of tinkering, Rodgers is confident his team is in a stronger position now than it was then.
“Going to Tynecastle at whatever time of the season is always a tough game, but we arrive in there in a much better place,” – Brendan Rodgers
Celtic has already been treated to a few standout performances from players such as Liam Scales this season. He’s impressed since winning his way into the lineup. It’s a pivotal time for the club with their next fixture. They’ll hope to use the good things from their recent home win against Sturm Graz.
