L’Jarius Sneed, the starting cornerback for the Tennessee Titans, has experienced significant challenges this year. It became clear Weeks had sustained a quad injury by Week 5 that has understandably been weighing on him. This injury has caused him to miss the last twelve games. Due to the severity of his injury, he was subsequently put on the injured reserve list.
Sneed’s injury happened in the third quarter of an embarrassing 31-13 defeat to the New England Patriots. After his injury, Schwartz had surgery to repair the quad problem. Then, in late May, he had a knee cleanup procedure. These medical interventions were essential as Sneed worked to come back to his former self.
He began training camp on the physically unable to perform list. He had a tremendous recovery and was activated on August 20. Since then, Sneed has done everything he can to get himself back on track, getting in competitive training and game situations.
This season, Sneed has been all over the field. He has played 340 snaps, which is 78.5% of the team’s defensive snaps. He’s totaled 26 tackles and defended three passes over the first seven games. In August, Sneed was feeling optimistic, according to reporters, even after having lost before. He announced his quad injury as being “in the rearview mirror” and said he was paying more attention to keeping his knee healthy.
Despite his recovery efforts, challenges remain. Coach Dennard Wilson gave some insight on Sneed’s strong outing this past week. He implied that missteps in reporting contributed to Sneed’s injury.
“We were in probably our best coverage to play at that time [quarters coverage] … the backside safety should have cross-keyed and been in the post. So, we didn’t have a guy in the post and Sneed had dirty eyes on that play … looking in the backfield, but that play should have never happened. It should have been intercepted.” – Dennard Wilson
For example, last year, the Titans were aggressive and brought on board Sneed from Kansas City. They only gave up a future third-round pick in 2025 and swapped future seventh-round picks in 2024. He signed a lucrative four-year deal worth $76 million, reflecting the team’s confidence in his abilities as a crucial defensive player.
As the season progresses, Sneed’s performance will be pivotal for the Titans’ defensive strategy. On and off the field, coaches will be looking to how well he can stay healthy. Fans will be looking to see just how well he helps score some runs. The entire Chiefs team and fanbase will be hoping that Sneed can continue to build on his recent performances without more injury lingering him.
