Kevin Durant Secures Two-Year Extension with Houston Rockets

Kevin Durant, the 15-time NBA All-Star, has agreed to a two-year contract extension worth $90 million with the Houston Rockets. The transaction carries a 2027-28 player option. This is a huge commitment for both Durant and the franchise as they look to assemble a competitive roster moving forward.

At 37 years old, Durant shows no signs of slowing down as he’s still one of the best players in the world. He’s one of the best jump shooters and shot creators on the planet. His infectious experience and talent fill out the Rockets’ already loaded roster perfectly. Last season, he averaged 26.6 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists in 62 games with the Phoenix Suns, showcasing his ability to perform at a high level even as he approaches the latter stages of his career.

Durant currently sits eighth all-time in career points scored in the NBA. This season, he’s poised to move up even further on that list. If he manages to score 990 more points, he will pass both Wilt Chamberlain and Dirk Nowitzki. This possible milestone further emphasizes his incredible touch and continued scoring ability.

The financial details of Durant’s new deal are very interesting. With this extension, he has broken the record for the highest career earnings in NBA history. His overall grosses are currently at approximately $598.2 million. This year, he’s set to make $54.7 million. With the new extension, Durant’s total contract value as of now has ballooned to three years and $144.7 million.

For almost two decades now, Durant has been the most consistent scoring machine in the game. He’s averaged at least 25 points per game for 16 straight seasons. In fact, in each of the past three seasons, he shot better than 50% from the field and 40% from long range. His scoring streak prowess solidifies him even more as one of the best players ever in league history.

Durant’s impact extends beyond individual statistics. He holds the record for the most career points per game in Oklahoma City Thunder history. On top of that, he’s the all-time leader in points per game for both the Brooklyn Nets and Phoenix Suns. Moreover, he is second all time in points per game for the Golden State Warriors, only behind Wilt Chamberlain.
