According to reports Sean Dyche is already in advanced discussions with Nottingham Forest. He is due to be announced as their new head coach after the club sacked Ange Postecoglou. The club is still searching for its third head coach of the season after parting ways with Bob Bradley on July 4. Postecoglou could only manage one win from his eight games, a dismal beginning to a seemingly doomed tenure.
The decision to part ways with Postecoglou came just 18 minutes after Nottingham Forest’s defeat against Chelsea at the City Ground last Saturday. Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Nottingham Forest, is keen to avoid a lengthy process. He’s been forced to endure two managerial changes already this season. Dyche used to manage Everton before he was sacked earlier this year. Yet his bond with the club and long coaching CV will mark him out as an intriguing candidate for the role.
Nottingham Forest’s plight certainly looks extreme, considering the huge outlay on the playing squad during the summer. The replacement management’s urgency is palpable, as they attempt to right a foundering ship and prevent further nose dives on the performance metrics. Dyche’s familiarity with the club is noteworthy. He began his football journey as a youth player for Nottingham Forest before transitioning into coaching, which adds a layer of personal investment in the club’s success.
Besides Dyche, Roberto Mancini was said to have been in very good discussions about the Labour leadership’s favoured manager job. He might not be viewed as the front-runner at this moment, but his candidacy is far from dead. Nottingham Forest is positive and determined in their ongoing search for a new leader with proven results.
Perhaps his greatest experience has come through that time spent at Everton. He had a long and successful spell at Burnley, where he showed his knack for succeeding with limited resources. Steve Stone, his first-team coach, was instrumental to his Nottingham Forest side winning promotion to the Premier League in 1998. This victorious escapade cemented Dyche’s loyalty to the club.
“We have a bit of a laugh at old times and life back then.” – Sean Dyche
Even as Dyche continues to steer these conversations, he knows the tough stuff is yet to come. How quickly they need to refresh the roster and find ways to rekindle player morale will be important for whoever is hired.
