Game-Time Decisions: Evans and Egbuka’s Status Uncertain Ahead of Lions Matchup

Mike Evans and Emeka Egbuka are still game-time decisions. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are preparing to take on the Detroit Lions this Sunday. Both players are dealing with hamstring strains, but recent developments suggest that they have a chance to participate in the crucial matchup.

Evans is the Buccaneers’ all-time leading scorer. Since that debut performance, he’s missed three games due to a hamstring injury he suffered in Week 3 against the New York Jets. After getting an MRI on Wednesday, he was able to practice in some capacity on Thursday but missed Friday with what was labelled a “rehab day.” On Saturday, he was back out at practice, contributing to optimism over his possible return.

“It’s gonna go all the way up until game time. He wants to play, but that depends on how he feels and how he looks,” said Coach Todd Bowles, addressing Evans’ status.

Egbuka was seen practicing in a non-contact capacity on Saturday. He was forced to miss both Thursday and Friday sessions as he incurred a hamstring strain in Week 6 against the San Francisco 49ers. Bowles confirmed that Egbuka still has a legitimate shot at playing against the Lions. This all comes even after him not practicing at all earlier in the week.

If he can’t go this week, no problem. So long as things go well, he should have a good shot to get back for their next game against the New Orleans Saints.

Bowles mentioned the difference Evans makes while on the field. Such a formation supports the run game, No. 1, because it keeps a safety and another corner out of the box. Surely, he’s our ace when healthy, our top dog. His size and height presents a mismatch for anyone on the defense that has to cover him. His savvy in route design gives our other skill players more chances to shine.

As both players continue to evaluate their fitness levels, fans eagerly await the final decision regarding their participation in the upcoming game. The availability of either player could have a major impact on the Buccaneers’ offensive gameplan versus a tough Lions defense.
