Finally, Liam Coen, head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars, is generating a splash in his inaugural campaign. He may be most known lately for coaching the Jaguars to a stunning 26-21 upset win over the San Francisco 49ers just two weeks ago. With this victory, Coen’s road victory is his biggest win as a head coach. It’s a reminder of his unique skill to cultivate a culture of hard work and refusal to quit among the Jaguars.
Coen has been leading the Jaguars’ program since January. Prior to that, he sharpened his coaching sword alongside Sean McVay with the Los Angeles Rams. While there, he shined as an assistant receivers coach and an assistant quarterbacks coach. He was promoted all the way up to offensive coordinator. McVay taught Coen to value authenticity and it pushed Coen to be his authentic self as a coach.
Coen appreciates that the culture Coen has cultivated in Jacksonville, known both for their check physical and mental toughness, is one of grit. His competitive nature is still on display in fiery personality on the sidelines. From a personal perspective, he fiercely advocates for the game and is all in on his players. For instance, during one game, Coen expressed frustration towards quarterback Trevor Lawrence but reassured that Lawrence was not affected by his intensity.
Snagging an upset win over the Bills last week, the Jaguars proudly sit at 4-2. Perhaps most remarkably, they accomplished that rare double by beating both the 49ers and the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this season.
