Chelsea FC forward Cole Palmer will be sidelined for another six weeks due to a groin injury. Assistant manager Enzo Maresca made that clear during a recent press conference. The 23-year-old England international sustained the injury in the warm-up before Chelsea’s Premier League clash against West Ham United. As you might remember, this incident occurred all the way back in August. Since then, he’s played in just four total games this season.
Palmer re-injured his groin problem during Chelsea’s rout at the hands of Manchester United back in September. The club were extremely hopeful for his return to action after the October international break. As Maresca’s recent Facebook post explains, his recovery is going to take more time than he originally thought.
Maresca stated, “I was wrong. Unfortunately, he has to be out probably six more weeks. This is the update.” He emphasized that Palmer’s recovery will be monitored closely, noting, “You probably need six weeks. We hope that six weeks is enough, but it’s a problem we need to see step-by-step, week after week. For sure, he is going to be OK.”
Chelsea’s skipper, Reece James, has quickly returned to form and fitness upon overcoming his own injury woes. His return will bring quality and options to the roster as the team enters this tough stretch of the season without Palmer.
The assistant manager vented his frustration about the random nature of injuries while addressing Palmer’s situation. “Yes, but the medical staff are not magicians. You never know that,” Maresca remarked, highlighting the uncertainty that often accompanies player injuries.
During this international break, as Chelsea look forward to some mouthwatering fixtures, the absence of Palmer will be a significant loss. The young forward’s contribution has been limited this season, and his extended recovery could impact the team’s performance as they aim to climb the Premier League standings.
