Cincinnati Bengals Cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt Aims for Redemption After Setbacks

After hitting some early roadblocks, Cincinnati Bengals cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt is focused on getting back on track and having a productive second half. Selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, Taylor-Britt quickly established himself as a reliable player. He was outside the numbers for 38 of his 39 games at outside cornerback prior to this season. This year, the poor performance has severely limited his playing time. In turn, the coaching staff’s response was to take him out of the lineup, an attempt to light a fire.

So during the 2023 and 2024 seasons, Taylor-Britt showed that promise with seven interceptions over two years, including two that he returned for touchdowns. In particular, the ringleader of the team’s historic seasons, he was a driving force during both seasons in leading their team defensive efforts. In Week 2 of this season, he played all but one of his team’s defensive snaps at 90% and proved that he can be durable. Then Week 4 happened when he played the Denver Broncos and that’s where things took a very different turn for him. He only played five snaps total after allowing a back-breaking play.

A second hamstring injury forced Taylor-Britt to miss the next game against the Minnesota Vikings. His woes carried over to Week 6. A major blown coverage down the stretch vs the Green Bay Packers allowed them to kick a game-winning field goal. Even with all of these disappointments, Cincinnati’s really hopeful that Taylor-Britt can really find his footing and help them long term.

Ever since, Taylor-Evans has publicly acknowledged where he needs to get better. He’s motivated to show the world why he was once the most talented draft pick in a very crowded field.

“I think that’s part of being an NFL player regardless,” – Cam Taylor-Britt.

His commitment to gleaning lessons from his experiences on the field has impressed the coaches who’ve watched him closely. Bengals head coach Zac Taylor put a premium on consistency, underlined by Taylor-Britt’s day-in and day-out performance.

“I would love nothing more [than] for him to respond and go on a great run here,” – Al Golden, Cincinnati’s first-year defensive coordinator.

Since Taylor-Britt’s journey as a mayoral candidate began two years ago, things have not been easy. Since then, he’s been pulled from the lineup at many of those points in time. To his credit, his resilience really stood out. He created a game-changing interception, yanking the ball away from Pittsburgh’s DK Metcalf to snare another pick. It’s this ability to make impactful plays that gives Cincinnati hope that he can become a difference maker again.

The Bengals organization is optimistic that Taylor-Britt can navigate his current challenges and emerge as a valuable asset for the remainder of the season. Taylor-Britt certainly has the mindset and willingness to learn and develop. He is all set to take advantage of whatever openings present itself.
