Justin Fields Aims for Aggressiveness in Upcoming Match

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields gets ready for the next game. He’s willing to take risks and a more dangerous attack to throw off his opponents’ game plans. It’s hard to talk about Fields without mentioning the accuracy he has shown in recent performances. He went 123 pass attempts without throwing a pick, the only quarterback in the league with at least 100 attempts to do so. He admits that his conservative play calling prevents that offense from having an ability to create explosive plays.

Fields has been vocal about wanting to stretch the field more in future games, looking to open up bigger offensive plays. In order to break through, he knows things have to change, going from a risk-averse approach to a bolder, more aggressive brand of play. This change follows an otherwise cautious performance against the Denver Broncos, in which Fields looked lost, especially when facing pressure.

“I feel like I’ve been a little bit too conservative in a sense,” Fields stated. Most likely just [have to] push a little bit harder. Ball security is my number one thing to protect, I never put my ball in danger. At the same time, I understand that moving forward, I have to find that middle ground between making more NFL level passes into tighter windows and throwing it rip.

Fields’ coach, Aaron Glenn, is still defending his quarterback amidst up and down play. Glenn further stresses the need to give Fields the space to fail and succeed at times without the risk of harsh penalties if things go awry. He stated, “I do know if something bad happens, you guys are going to be bitching about that and about him.”

Fields has done well to avoid interceptions so far. He is aware that taking chances is a part of being a quarterback. He looked back on his previous games. He noticed that the impact of a bolder tactic is vastly superior in terms of team performance.

To throw no interceptions…is just…great! Here’s the thing, we can only go so far unless we take some calculated risks and stretch the outer bounds of the field. It’s so important for our offense to manufacture those explosive throws. Fields noted.

Fields extended an impressive streak without interceptions. He lost his starting job for good earlier this season after only six games due to a poor performance down the field. This experience led him to understand how to walk that fine line of caution versus aggression in his play style.

Fields is looking to take a more assertive approach in their next meeting. If you ask him, he’ll tell you that he’s going to remain cautious and not make irresponsible choices. First, he must find a better balance between making the dangerous throws and protecting the football.

“It’s happened before, and I’ve looked back over my shoulder before,” Fields commented regarding past experiences. “That doesn’t do any good for me personally, and it doesn’t do anything good for this team.”

As Fields gets ready for Sunday’s action, he’ll have to do a balancing act of protecting what makes him special while seeking out chances for those explosive plays. He goes with the old ‘let-‘er-rip’ approach. For him, accomplishing that means improving his own game and taking the whole Jets offense to new levels.
