Wide receiver Treylon Burks signed with the Washington Commanders practice squad. This move is meant to shore up their roster as they’ve been ravaged with injuries at the receiver position all season long. Burks had been released by the Tennessee Titans on October 7. He brings great NFL experience having been taken 18th overall in the 2022 draft.
Burks’ path through the league thus far has been plagued with injury. Last year, he suffered a serious tearing of his ACL, severely debilitating his performance. Then, more recently on July 26, he fractured his collarbone leaping making a diving one-handed catch. Even with these injuries, he’s done an admirable job of staying productive while on the field in his 27 games over three seasons. He has totaled 53 receptions for 699 yards and a touchdown.
The Commanders are in desperate need of an upgrade at receiver. That’s precisely why they chose to recruit Burks. With multiple players currently out with injuries, Burks’ signing will give the unit a solid boost. The Commanders’ coaching staff believes that Burks has the potential to contribute significantly as they navigate the challenges posed by a depleted roster.
Burks’ signing is an underscoring move by the Commanders as they continue to look for ways to improve their offensive weapons. His history of being a first-round draft pick reflects the immense talent that he possesses. That skill is something the team is looking to build on as they continue deep into the season.
