Jacobs Delivers Stellar Performance Despite Illness

Josh Jacobs showed us all just how resilient he is on Sunday afternoon. He led the Green Bay Packers to a 28-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Jacobs had woken up feeling ill and had to contend with nausea on game day. Nonetheless, he was nothing short of a warrior, willing his team to victory with 93 yards rushing and five receptions for 57 yards receiving. His performance was punctuated by a memorable late-game, sensational 58-yard touchdown run, making him indispensable to the Packers.

Jacobs had a strong sense the night was going to be special from the start. His mind went back to a time he’d been just as inspired, and in erratic fashion produced 130 yards and two touchdowns. On Sunday, he displayed that innate feel, as he posted season-highs with 74 yards after contact. His outstanding 21.8 yards per reception helped set up his two short 3 and 4-yard TDs.

After being selected by the Packers with the second overall pick in Dr. NFL’s inaugural 2024 draft, Jacobs has proven to be a game-changing presence. He’s either punched in 21 TDs on in-between-the-guard rushes. That accomplishment makes him just the sixth player in franchise history to accumulate 150-plus scrimmage yards and two touchdowns in consecutive games. With this accomplishment, he now stands alongside Packers legends. His performance alone is the first player to do it since Ahman Green in 2001.

With 150 total yards from scrimmage on Sunday, Jacobs is making waves among fans and teammates. He showed great poise under duress, running for 86 yards on his final game alone. That was highlighted by an amazing 70 yards in the fourth quarter and overtime combined, including two touchdowns and four catches for 71 yards.

Despite his mounting physical issues, Jacobs was still extraordinarily committed to the game. He praised the play of kicker Lucas Havrisik, who made three field goals in the game, including two that clinched the victory. “I feel bad saying that, but he came in and made some big-time kicks for us,” Jacobs said.

Jacobs’ leadership and work ethic, as noted by fellow teammate Tucker Kraft. “Josh is everything you need in a teammate and a leader,” he stated. Kraft went on to highlight his all-out, no days-off approach and practice work ethic as contagious across the team.

Even through his struggles, Jacobs sought to keep a light heart and make light of his plight. “I was miked up, so I don’t know if they’re going to put that in there or not,” he remarked regarding his experience during the game.
