Jets Struggle Continues as They Fall to 0-6 Against Broncos

The New York Jets faced another disheartening defeat, dropping to 0-6 after a narrow 13-11 loss to the Denver Broncos at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. This is just the third time in franchise history that the Jets have started a season 0-4 or worse. What an unfortunate opening for the squad! Head Coach Aaron Glenn and the team now face intense scrutiny as they grapple with both performance issues and injuries.

Rich Cimini, who has covered the Jets for over 30 years and joined ESPN in 2010, noted the team’s struggles have reached a new low. The Jets went on the worst offensive game in 34 years, only gaining 82 total net yards. This performance stands as the third worst production all-time for the team. Their longer offensive play than that was an 11 yard pass, exposing an all-time low for production on their offense.

Quarterback Justin Fields, who finished 9 for 17 for 45 yards, was under constant pressure on the day. He lost 55 yards on nine sacks, a disheartening stat that highlights the Jets’ big issues in pass protection. The Jets missed a golden opportunity to knock on fourth-and-1 from their own 47-yard line. Yet with just 32 seconds left on the clock, they misplayed the opportunity, leaving fans shaking their heads and in disbelief.

Injuries magnified the Jets’ woes. Not just in general, wide receiver Garrett Wilson even tore a knee ligament during the game. He’s set to get an MRI when he returns to New Jersey. After the game, Wilson didn’t hold back on sharing his frustration over the team’s lack of effort and execution.

“I just didn’t know exactly what the plan was,” – Garrett Wilson.

Wilson continued to expound on the idea that a new aggressive approach would be required going forward.

“I think we’ve got to truly have a ‘We’ve got nothing to lose’ mentality. If that’s how we feel, it’s got to be obvious.” – Garrett Wilson.

He particularly pointed to their 0-6 record. This is the time for this team to get dangerous, to get dumb and play loose!

Despite Wilson’s concerns, Glenn defended the team’s conservative playcalling, attributing some of the struggles to occasional breakdowns in pass protection. He admitted the passing game was non-existent to say the least throughout their game this weekend.

“There are guys that have bad games. That doesn’t mean you just bench them. Come on, you know better than that,” – Aaron Glenn.

Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand has blasted Glenn for his overly conservative approach. He argues that this approach is counterproductive in those critical moments of the game. Glenn indignantly excused Wilson’s outburst, framing it as an expression of competitive fire rather than insubordination.

The Jets’ struggles only further complicate the vision and direction Todd Bowles and his squad must follow to right the ship during their lost campaign. Each week, supporters and football pundits alike wonder whether their side can turn their fortunes around. Time is short, and the clock—and pressure—is ticking!
