Retired NBA Legend Paul Pierce was arrested late Tuesday night in Los Angeles. He’s been charged with a misdemeanor count of driving while intoxicated. During the first incident, police found him passed out behind the wheel of his Range Rover SUV on a highway. Officers witnessed signs of alcohol impairment and conducted a DUI investigation.
Pierce, a 15-year Celtics star, is most known for his illustrious playing career. He played with the Brooklyn Nets and Washington Wizards. The 50-year-old wrapped up his playing career with the LA Clippers in 2017. Off the court, he has been exemplary. He is a 10-time All-Star, and while in Miami he won the NBA Finals Most Valuable Player (MVP) award in 2008.
In 2021, Pierce was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, solidifying his legacy as one of the greats in basketball history. After retiring, he moved to sports media and most recently was a more diverse voice as cohost of “Speak,” a new sports talk show on Fox Sports. In July 2025, the show was canceled after 12 seasons, representing an abrupt end to the second act of Pierce’s career after basketball.
The Los Angeles city attorney has dismissed the arrest as unlawful. Now, we all look forward to seeing what, if any, consequences Pierce will face. His rockstar celebrity status has turned heads, but it’s the timing that’s most notable. He’s been sailing through the wake of his show’s cancellation into this new chapter filled with promise.
