Harry Maguire’s Retrial Delayed Again Over Translation Issues

Harry Maguire’s retrial over the 2020 incident on Mykonos has been delayed for the fourth time. This latest delay comes from the fact that she can’t translate key court documents into English. This language clarification plays an important role for the proceedings to move forward. The emergency hearing in Syros, Greece, was scheduled to start on October 8. After much back and forth, it has now again been pushed back to March 4, 2026.

On August 15, 2020, Maguire and his family became involved in a fight outside a pub. He was arrested as a result of this incident. After the altercation, Maguire was charged with assaulting police officers and trying to corrupt them. Though he was first convicted, an appeal gave him a new trial, voiding the original conviction under Greek law.

Maguire’s legal team has done everything required to make sure the trial could go forward as scheduled. Our court translator has not yet completed translating the requested documents into English. This year-long delay has created a tremendous hardship.

“The court translator has not yet translated the documents Maguire’s team requested to English.” – Jean-Jacques Paradissis

Dr. Paradissis, the legal counsel for the accused police officer, remains optimistic regarding the case’s outcome. He hopes it’ll be resolved long before the Statute of Limitations runs out in 2028. Responding to pressing from Judge Kessler, he acknowledged that, with all this delay, there is still hope the case might finish up next year.

Additionally, it should be noted that Harry Maguire is not obligated to be present at the trial in person. This aspect allows him to manage his professional commitments while his legal team handles the proceedings.

Yet the continuing delays have highlighted not only the nuances of international legal proceedings but the impact of detailed and thorough documentation. As this case moves forward, both sides will surely be looking for a settlement in the years ahead.
