It was a terrific showing by Falkirk FC against Rangers. They held defending champions Celtic to a 1-1 draw in their last Scottish Premiership outing on their artificial surface. Both players had to deal with the match playing out on an extremely heavy court. Within a minute of coming off the bench, Falkirk’s Henry Cartwright fired in a gorgeous equaliser. This result highlights the determination of the newly-promoted team. More than anything, they are rapidly making the step up to the rigors of elite-level Scottish football and showing their promise.
Falkirk’s players looked at ease on their home turf, showing no aversion to going toe-to-toe with big-name clubs. Over the course of the game, they created a number of opportunities. Rangers’ goalkeeper Jack Butland produced a tremendous stop to keep out a close-range flick from Ross MacIver, who almost gave Falkirk the lead. Despite a strong start and a disallowed goal by Djedi Gassama, Falkirk maintained their momentum, ultimately earning a well-deserved point.
Falkirk’s Performance and Key Moments
Falkirk’s manager, John McGlynn, called on his players to exploit any frailties in the Rangers’ game. The Rangers squad looked sub-par the entire game. More importantly, the team’s will was clear through their refusal to give in as they reached for equalizers.
Contrary to this ruling, which occurred in the first half as Gassama’s goal was disallowed for offside, Falkirk pushed on unaffected by this missed opportunity. Not long after, Cartwright was listening to the roar of the hometown crowd. Course participants encouraged him to go for it, and he did! His gamble found its mark. He finished with a perfectly placed shot, equalizing the match.
“Today’s a difficult pitch, different conditions. We’re 1-0 up, we should go on and score a second, and we don’t and it costs us. But there have been improvements. Maybe not in results but performance a lot.” – Russell Martin
The mood in the stadium had risen dramatically when fans rejoiced over Cartwright’s equalising goal. The final shot of Leon McCann jubilantly jumping on Cartwright in celebration captured how happy the win made the team and their fans as a whole.
Rangers’ Struggles
Rangers couldn’t get into their flow for the entirety of the game, looking out of sorts and jittery especially in the second half. The defending champs again failed to hold on to an early lead. In their determination to pull back an equalizer, Falkirk lost control over the game.
The comments express worry over Rangers’ recent form, this being more pronounced considering their next few fixtures seeing them travel to more difficult grounds.
“Rangers looked disjointed and no doubt, anxious in the second half. Something has to change because this is not good enough.”
The comments highlight concerns about Rangers’ current form, especially given their upcoming fixtures at challenging venues.
