Golfer Vince Whaley Faces Alligator While Making Shot in Jackson

On October 5, 2025 golfer Vince Whaley was facing a dangerous situation while playing in the Sanderson Farms Championship in Jackson, Mississippi. At approximately 11:38 PM ET, Whaley stepped into the water to take a shot, unaware that a six-foot alligator was closely watching him from nearby.

Despite the lurking danger, Whaley maintained his focus on the shot, trusting his caddie to monitor the situation. By keeping his back to the alligator, he was able to focus on his backswing. Whaley later described his mindset during the incident, stating, “Well, thankfully, my back was to him so I could focus on the shot for a second.”

The golfer’s trust in his caddie was a key factor in helping him address the odd situation and adapt to it. The idea was to escape from that water,” he told us after he finished that shot.

Whaley put on a really good show out there. He ended the day with a stunning 67, which would lead him to a tie for third place in the tournament. This remarkable accomplishment affirmed his incredible golfing talent and proved his prowess of staying cool, calm, and collected when the lights were shining the brightest.
