Daniel Jones, rookie signal caller for the Indianapolis Colts After just one quarter of this NFL season, Daniel Jones has had the biggest impact. After joining the team in March, he has quickly made a name for himself, leading the Colts to a strong 3-1 start. In the process, his performance has turned heads with a string of eye-popping statistics. The Colts even showed off his fun nickname, “Indiana Jones” in a recent X post featuring his playmaking ability.
Jones has opened things up downfield, with his 1,078 yards through the air currently ranking third in the league. In doing so, he displays eye-popping passing talent to go with staggering versatility all over the field. His three passing and three rushing touchdowns, combined with a perfect turnover-free slate in his first three games, have given him an advantage to capitalize on. So his total QBR of 79.7 has him in front of the entire league as the top dog going into Week 5.
Looking back at his formative years, Jones said that he was inspired after watching all the Indiana Jones films growing up. This nostalgia, born from a robust football past, brings an added optimism that makes Big Blue the cherished name that it is among fans and film breakers everywhere.
“I didn’t factor that in. But, you know, I’d say it’s probably an upgrade. Yeah, it’s always a nickname … There’s a nickname now everywhere.” – Daniel Jones
The Colts can be one of the most dynamic offenses in the league this season. They average 6.5 yards per play, tops in the league and score 30.8 points per game, also tops in the league! They’ve been downright elite through three games, punting just one time. That accomplishment set a record for the fewest number of punts by any team since at least 1940.
After Jones’ worst start, a humiliating loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 4. While he tossed two interceptions to just one touchdown pass, this young player’s overall performance is still worthy of praise. The past two seasons were difficult for him as he finished 29th out of 33 qualified quarterbacks in QBR. This year, he’s had a record-setting high score.
Maxx Crosby even commented on Jones’ new nickname, stating it “might be the best nickname around right now.” Jones is getting ready to go against the Raiders this Sunday. He’ll be looking to build on his breakout performance and secure his place as one of the better players in the league.
