Steven Fisk Triumphs at Sanderson Farms Championship with Late Surge

Steven Fisk made a big win at the 2023 Sanderson Farms Championship, winning with 24-under 264. The 28-year-old golfer closed out the tournament on Sunday with an exceptional 8-under 64, marking a significant achievement in his career and a noteworthy turnaround in the FedEx Cup standings.

Fisk put together a roaring close in his race. He made birdie on the last three holes, capping off his win in style. The turning point came down to the 17th hole. His approach shot hit a magnificent wedge that danced around the cup before settling just three feet away. This clever approach gave him an important lead with a key birdie.

With each step he took toward the 18th fairway, Fisk further cemented his championship. He made his second consecutive birdie by sticking his last approach just four feet from the pin. He ended the tournament two shots clear of Garrick Higgo, who proved to be another great story in the making, putting together a nice performance from start to finish.

Prior to this victory, Fisk was No. 135 in the FedEx Cup standings. His victory catapulted him 84 spots, landing him at No. This big jump not only increased his rank, but gained him important employment security.

Fisk reflected on his mindset heading into the final round, stating, “I came out today with an attitude that nothing was going to stop me. I just felt like I’d be standing right here, right now, before the round started. I know I’m good enough. I thought I could do it.” What was even more striking than his clarity of purpose and self-assuredness was the way that he consistently overpowered obstacles on his chosen course.

Though Fisk was challenged to a few accountability by elite players like Danny Walker and Garrick Higgo during the tournament. Early on the back nine, he found himself in a serious dogfight. He pulled ahead as soon as Walker dunked his ball into the water on the par-5 11th hole for a bogey.

Higgo praised Fisk’s performance, saying, “My mindset was to birdie every hole. I almost did that. Steven did the same, so hats off to him.” This acknowledgment from his peers underscores Fisk’s impressive display of skill and composure under pressure.

Fisk’s road to this title has not been an easy one, and has required tremendous faith and fortitude. He played college golf at Georgia Southern. In 2019, he made the short trip across the Mersey with great pride to join the Walker Cup team at Royal Liverpool. This victory boosts his professional profile very significantly. Yet it serves as a monument to his diligence in an awful year.
