Titans Activate Tyjae Spears for Game Against Cardinals

The Tennessee Titans are finally ready to activate running back Tyjae Spears and use him for his full potential, ahead of a great matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. After suffering a high ankle sprain, Spears spent a large portion of the season on injured reserve. He suffered the injury in the team’s preseason opener against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on August 9.

After the injury, Spears had surgery on his ankle and began an intensive rehab process. He has been staying busy with Titans trainers on a separate field the last few weeks. This new effort would be a powerful demonstration of his commitment to making a comeback.

Spears couldn’t hide his enthusiasm for coming back, saying, “I’m super excited. He continued, “The emotions have just been swelling this whole week and I can’t wait to just get back out on that field.” His positivity underscores his desire to get back on the field with the team, having missed all of 2022 with injury.

Besides activating Spears, the Titans set their 53-man roster and practice squad in preparation for Thursday. The injury led to the team placing safety Mike Brown on injured reserve. Fifth, they signed James Proche II and Kendall Brooks from the practice squad to the active roster.

Head coach Brian Callahan previously emphasized the importance of balancing the workload between Spears and fellow running back Tony Pollard. Last season, Pollard had a remarkable 260 carries. As Callahan said back in July, “In a perfect world, it’s a healthier division of labor between Pollard and Spears.” Love the misdirection plays complimenting the coaching staff’s attempts to finesse and maximize the running game. Both players bring incredibly unique skill sets that will make for a dynamic Titans’ offense.

One of his biggest flashes of brilliance this preseason came on a long 13 yard reception from the backfield. Unfortunately, he went down with an injury just a few days after this highlight-reel play. He’s set to make his return to the lineup tonight against the Cardinals. His teammates and fans are excited to see how he’ll take their team’s offense to the next level!
