Higgo Maintains Aggressive Approach with Two-Shot Lead at Sanderson Farms Championship

Watch Garrick Higgo’s phenomenal 3rd round performance at the Sanderson Farms Championship. He ended up firing a brilliant 5-under 67. This score moved him out to a two-shot buffer. Now, he brings all that momentum into the final round at the Country Club of Jackson. As he prepares for Sunday’s round, Higgo remains focused on his game plan, emphasizing his intent to maintain an aggressive strategy rather than playing it safe.

Higgo’s confidence is evident as he stated, “I’m going to play as if I’m behind tomorrow and be as aggressive as I can be and make as many birdies as I can.” It’s something he’s kept very simple over the course of this tournament. Now, he hopes to capitalize on the momentum he saw during the last three days. The golfer attributes his record-breaking performance to an honed fitness regimen. This is the routine that’s kept him spry and quick despite dealing with a labrum tear he incurred earlier this season.

At one point after the regular season, Higgo was contemplating hip surgery. Instead, he committed to improving the physical side of his game, and clearly that’s been a lucrative decision. Just a few months ago he got to celebrate his first big victory at the Puntacana Championship. More recently, with a tie for 7th at the Procore Championship, his most recent run of play unmistakably announces his return to form.

On Saturday’s round, Higgo had a pair of impressive birdie conversions on the par-5 14th and par-4 15th. This upped his overall count to a phenomenal 18 below par. He finished his round the right way, too, parring the last two holes and proving he knows how to keep his cool when it matters most.

In looking back on the overall experience this season, Higgo admitted, “I’d say it was a really good battle. His desire to win propels him through adversity. He’s steadfast in playing his game on his terms, free from outside influences such as the FedEx Cup standings.

On the final round Higgo arrives and prepares with a single-mindedness to execute the plan. Get used to it, ’cause he totally leans into the momentum he’s accrued over the course of the tournament. His ability to navigate challenges and stay aggressive could prove crucial as he looks to secure victory at the Sanderson Farms Championship.
