Arthur Jones, a Baltimore Ravens—a former Syracuse University defensive lineman and NFL star who died at 39. Known for his formidable skills on the field, Jones earned a reputation as one of the top interior linemen during his college career. His sudden passing has left the sports world reeling. He was honored not only for his amazing athletic prowess, but equally for the strength of his character and success of his colorful spirit.
Jones’ fingerprints are all over Syracuse. He set a school record for interior defensive linemen with 38½ tackles for loss. His play on the field couldn’t be denied and as a junior and senior, he was named a first-team All-Big East selection. This accomplishment underscored his immense gift and tenacious spirit. Draft Class of 2010 In 2010, he came into the NFL as a fifth-round draft pick, starting his professional career out with the Baltimore Ravens.
During his time in the NFL, Jones achieved 10 career sacks, with 8½ of those coming in a remarkable two-season stretch from 2012 to 2013. No player was more significant to the success that the Ravens experienced during his 12 seasons with the team, highlighted by a fumble recovery in Super Bowl XLVII. Following his three seasons with Baltimore, he signed with the Indianapolis Colts, where he spent an additional two years. He finished up his career with the Washington Football Team in 2017.
Jones was best known for being the older brother of NFL stars Jon and Chandler Jones. Chandler, a four-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, has often spoken highly of his brother’s influence on his own career.
