In the last match, second T20, Bangladesh batted first and put a target of 150 runs losing 8 wickets in 19.1 overs. They had to overcome a powerful challenge from the intimidating Afghan team. The match was an exhibition in both high caliber play and game-changing mistakes, illustrating both the skill and the opportunity evident in Afghanistan’s victory.
Bangladesh had a stuttering start to their innings, losing opener Tanzid Hasan Tamim for just 2 runs. Parvez Hossain Emon and Saif Hassan scored 14 and 18 runs, respectively, to play minor roles. The team had a hard time creating major collaborations. Saifuddin Mohammad scored 4 runs before being bowled out by Azmatullah Omarzai. This time, Omarzai put on an impressive display, taking 4 wickets throughout the match.
Extras were of little help at all for Bangladesh, with only 5 runs (0 no-balls, 5 wides). No matter how much they tried, their heavy batting lineup was countered by fierce bowling from their competitors.
Afghanistan’s bowling attack was led by Azmatullah Omarzai, whose impressive performance not only included taking four wickets but significantly stifled Bangladesh’s scoring opportunities. Rishad cemented his stamp on the match by picking up two important wickets, including Azmatullah.
Shoriful Islam held strong at the crease, making 11 runs in the final throes of the innings. His innings provided welcome and timely resistance as Bangladesh approached the end of their batting innings. While this was impressive, the attempts fell short of getting the team to a respectable competitive total.
Their squad included young talents like Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was wicketkeeper for the team. The spin-heavy bowling unit included the likes of Mujeeb Ur Rahman and Noor Ahmad. They both contributed a wicket a piece, helping push their team to national tournament victory!
Afghanistan’s captain Rashid Khan was the picture of calmness as he helped steer his team to fame and fortune. His tactical choices from the field married up with the best national team bowling display I’ve ever seen over five days.
