Stefon Diggs Finds His Place with the New England Patriots

The enduring excellence of 31-year-old wide receiver Stefon Diggs has provided that jolt. Now, just four weeks into the 2025 NFL season, he is quickly surfacing as one of that team’s most valuable assets. After an inconsistent start, marked by sporadic participation in the team’s voluntary workout program during the spring, Diggs has showcased his adaptability and skill, aligning well with the Patriots’ offensive strategies under head coach Josh McDaniels.

Diggs has been downright lethal, though, especially at creating chemistry with the second-year quarterback Drake Maye. With each passing game, he has become one of their most important targets this season. He leads the squad in receptions and receiving yards. Combined that makes for one of the most impressive recent rookie starts with the Patriots. He has yet to score a touchdown, and that motivates him on every play of each contest.

The former fifth-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has ice water in his veins. He quickly recovered from a torn ACL, his first serious injury in the league. His disappointment didn’t spur him to quit, but instead ignited his resolve to return with a vengeance. Following a 20-13 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1, Diggs actively sought contact during practice to enhance his performance.

Five in the first four games of the season Diggs has been limited to 55.5% of the offensive snaps. This goes to show just how valuable he’s been to the team. His all-around effort against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3 was the most noticeable. Coach Mike Vrabel praised him and seemed to indicate that Diggs’ playing time would increase as the season went on.

“He’s always had a relentless work ethic. He’s been working diligently mentally to be able to handle everything we throw at him.” – Todd Downing

Diggs has already developed into a star receiver. Most notable was his first time going over 100-receiving yards in 22 games, underscoring just how good he was. This milestone represents not just his physical preparedness but the increasing comfort level he’s gaining while assimilating into the Patriots’ offense.

The chemistry he’s developed with Maye has been invaluable. As they grow into their on-field connection, Diggs is gazing upward, still intent on honing everything into his game. He recognizes the challenges with adapting to a new system, but is unapologetic about the commitment to his growth.

“Putting in that time, putting in that grind throughout camp, I feel like you don’t know what it’s going to be like until the season is here.” – Stefon Diggs

As he continues to adjust to this new and unfamiliar path, Diggs says he’s mostly grateful for where he’s landed. He emphasizes gratitude for being able to play the game he loves and recognizes the support he receives from those around him.

“My life could be a lot worse. I’m blessed. I have a lot to look forward to each day.” – Stefon Diggs

The vibe around Diggs this season is sizzling, particularly as he gets set for showdowns with division rivals. He knows the importance of these games and the bigger challenge that comes with it.

“In the division, they say it’s one game, but it damn near counts as two. I’m excited for the challenge.” – Stefon Diggs

Diggs is looking to continue with the momentum from his hot start to season. He’s determined to continue to challenge himself and make the most of every opportunity presented to him.

“If there is something that we emphasize, he’s going to have our backs with the young guys.” – Todd Downing
