Nepal made history by winning their first-ever T20 series against a full member nation, decisively defeating the West Indies with a game to spare. In an incredible showing, Nepal had the West Indies all out for just 83 runs. This extraordinary achievement sets the record for the lowest total ever made by a full member country versus an associate member. That final match was played during a historic three-match T20 series in Nepal.
The West Indies made it hard on themselves all the way down the line. Not surprisingly, Jason Holder was able to muster only 21 runs, the highest score for his side. The West Indies’ depressing performance is further proof of a deeply scary trend. Back in July, their Test team achieved what many thought was impossible by being bowled out for 27 runs against Australia.
Nepal had the stadium rocking with their blistering innings. They scored an imposing 173 for 6, opening the door for their monumental victory. With this win, Nepal not only won the series but sent a strong message about their rise in international cricket. The team is currently ranked 18th in the world and will participate in qualifiers for the 2026 T20 World Cup next month.
This loss further compounds the West Indies’ woes. In fact, they are presently ranked sixth in the T20 game and have just missed out on qualification for the 2023 50-over World Cup. Furthermore, they are currently outside the qualifying places for the upcoming 2027 World Cup, raising concerns about the future of their cricketing stature.
Nepal’s impressive performance was guided by their coach, Australian Stuart Law, who has been instrumental in developing the team’s skills and strategies. This TS series is a historic achievement for Nepal. For the first time ever, they played against a full member nation in a T20 series this week.
