The Baltimore Ravens now face a difficult but possible task following quarterback Lamar Jackson’s injury. Unfortunately, this was the least of their concerns during their 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Jackson left the game in the middle of the third quarter with an apparent hamstring injury. This puts him in doubt for the Jacksonville Jaguars, who face the Houston Texans next Sunday.
This newest injury, past the point of a reasonable doubt, is extremely troubling for the Ravens. Jackson, who hadn’t missed a game since the final five weeks of the 2022 season with a knee injury. If Jackson can’t go, Dallas will likely turn to backup QB Cooper Rush as the starter Sunday.
In fact, the Ravens are historically awful on the rare occasions Jackson doesn’t start. Over the last six seasons, they’ve consistently posted a pathetic 4-10 mark in such games, playoffs included. This 13-0 stat shows just how important Jackson is to the team’s success.
When Jackson left the game, the Ravens were losing to the Chiefs 27-13, making it doubtful if he would be back at all. Here’s what Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had to say about Jackson’s health and his dedication to the organization.
“There was no way he was going to go back into the game,” – John Harbaugh
“Everybody kind of knows what his game is, and he can play that game,” Harbaugh added, emphasizing Jackson’s competitiveness and skill. He recognized the cloud of doubt that comes with Jackson’s injury.
Harbaugh stated, “I know Lamar. If he could have gone in the game, he would’ve been in the game. That’s how he is. I can assure you that he would not have been able to go back in the game under any circumstance.” Such comments indicate both confidence in Jackson’s skills and acknowledgement that he is dealing with a serious injury.
As the Ravens look ahead to next week’s test against the Texans, Harbaugh mentioned progress on injury talks is a constant.
“We’ve got a pretty good feel on all the injuries with the different guys right now where we’re at; I’m really not commenting on those things today,” – John Harbaugh
