Minnesota Timberwolves budding star Anthony Edwards has a little bit of advice for basketball great Michael Jordan. He’s competitive, passionate and zealous to improve his craft and help his team win an NBA title. This offseason, Edwards has focused on enhancing his skills and building team chemistry, laying the groundwork for a successful 2025-26 season.
The 21-year-old shooting guard has only just started to plan out how to incorporate Jordan’s advice into his practice schedule. He was referring to a key piece of advice that Jordan had given him about post play.
“I think the best tip that he gave me is that most people lean on people in the post with their butt, and he does it with the top part of his back,” – Anthony Edwards
Edwards wants to expand the scope of his game this season. He bragged about the fact that he’s “added another dimension” to his game. It’s this dedication to getting better that’s caught the eye of Timberwolves head coach Chris Finch. For his part, Finch has repeatedly expressed confidence in Edwards’ potential. If he keeps this progress up, Edwards may turn into one of the best players in the entire league.
“He’s becoming more intentional about supporting his teammates and building their bond long before the playoffs begin,” Finch noted. This focus on collaboration is important for a Timberwolves team that looks to continue improving after last year’s success.
It’s hard to overstate how disappointing last season was for the Timberwolves. They were dispatched by the Oklahoma City Thunder in only five games. In that series, Edwards had a rough go from deep, hitting only 11 of 39 deep attempts. This year, he’s focused on being a better rim attacker and overall finisher, as well as making sure he’s an effective performer when it’s closing time.
“I need to average a bunch of points to get into the MVP convo in 2025-26,” Edwards stated, showcasing his ambition. He understands that winning begins with coming together and being ready in the offseason.
“I think winning starts with being together and it starts in the summertime,” – Anthony Edwards
This summer Edwards has had one primary focus—bettering his all-around game on both ends. In addition to annual personal growth, he’s gotten more obsessive about his film study and getting his body in peak condition over the years. He’s gone through intensive one-on-one development camps with other NBA rookie Julius Randle. These sessions have both a developmental skills component and a competitive practice element.
Coach Finch has remarked on the advantage this year’s Timberwolves group holds over last year’s team, attributing it to the chemistry developed during the offseason. “We’ve got to be together. We’ve got to be a team. We can’t wait until the All-Star break to try and become a team. We’ve got to do it now,” Edwards emphasized.
The Timberwolves have a lot of promise heading into next season. To these aspirations, they hope to add their enhanced chemistry and Edwards’ natural progression as a player. Led by the legendary Michael Jordan, Edwards is prepared to take the basketball world by storm in his new career. It is his drive and tenacity that keeps his momentum going towards success.
