NFL Week 4 is the perfect example of how unpredictable yet predictable the league is. It’s that juxtaposition that makes the league so fun. The Atlanta Falcons acknowledged an important win over the Washington Commanders. On the other end of the spectrum, the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens were baffled with discouraging showings. Fantasy football managers were not immune, receiving confusing signals about prospects and established players alike.
And no one is feeling the heat more than A.J. Brown’s fantasy managers, especially considering where you’re likely expecting him to be drafted. In much the same way, Ladd McConkey’s bona fides as a fantasy starter have been called into question. At the same time, other players, like Eastern Kentucky wideout Woody Marks, are shooting up prospect rankings and making noise in dynasty fantasy football leagues.
Falcons Bounce Back with Key Victory
After some lackluster performances, the Atlanta Falcons were in dire need of a victory. They certainly delivered, pulling out a come-from-behind victory against the Washington Commanders, 34-27. This game was really a coming out party for the Falcons’ offense, as they were able to rack up a staggering 435 total yards.
Rookie Drake London was the breakout star, with 110 receiving yards, rookie Bijan Robinson had 106 yards to boot. This performance exemplified the offensive capabilities that fans and analysts had anticipated from the Falcons at the start of the season. The win was a real turning point and a much-needed boost for Atlanta. It also showed their ability to fight for their lives in the competition, gritty NFC South.
And that adaptability and execution under pressure are what have made the Falcons so successful this year. Quarterback Desmond Ridder showed exceptional poise in guiding his team through the most important parts of the game. Moving ahead, the Falcons will want to use this momentum to set themselves up as heavyweights.
Titans Struggle Amidst Ongoing Challenges
In complete opposition to the success of the Falcons, the Tennessee Titans still can’t get out of their own way, sitting at an abysmal 0-4 record. The Titans have been outscored a staggering 120-51 so far this season, raising questions about their offensive and defensive strategies. First year QB Cam Ward has had a tough time establishing himself under center, adding to the inconsistency, as he hasn’t been able to find any rhythm.
As the Titans find their way through their early-season crisis, it seems confidence is lacking from many of those playing, and those supporting, the Titans. Though much improvement was expected, the product on the field has fallen short of those expectations. The key coaching staff is under extreme pressure to fix things before it’s too late.
Each week that goes by brings more urgency for the Titans. They need to do an about face quickly or else see another season slipping from their grasp. These next few games are incredibly important. First, they will discern whether this team has the toughness to dig out a win, the stones to be a winning and therefore confident competitive side again.
Fantasy Football: Overreactions and Emerging Stars
During this year’s fantasy football draft season, managers have made life-altering decisions on draft day based on one single question. No player has had more of an aggravating career than A.J. Brown, especially when you consider how highly he was selected. The naysayers would argue that fantasy managers need to take whatever they can get from him at this point. To dismiss this circumstance as an overreaction would be to overlook his breakout ability moving forward.
Ladd McConkey now seems like a dangerous fantasy bet. However, despite earning the trust of quarterback Justin Herbert, he hasn’t done enough in recent weeks to deserve a start in fantasy lineups. As the season progresses, fantasy managers will need to stay vigilant about player performances and market trends to make informed decisions.
Perhaps most surprisingly, would you have guessed that for fantasy purposes, Woody Marks is becoming the preferred RB over Nick Chubb. After establishing himself as a capable performer in the past few weeks, Marks became a reliable asset for managers looking to make a push for points. It’s a heartening development, proving again that often-unappreciated, under-the-radar players can deliver mighty dividends when allowed to shine.
Ravens’ Defensive Struggles Raise Concerns
This September, the Baltimore Ravens have fallen on a rough patch. In fact, in their three losses they’ve surrendered 37 or more points. This has obscured some very serious warning signs as to their defensive prowess as they try to recover from their poor start.
Even with this adversity, analysts are still high on the Ravens’ chances to bounce back this year. They believe that if Baltimore can rectify their defensive issues, they still possess enough talent to win eight to ten games consecutively throughout the remainder of the season.
The last few matchups will be very important down the stretch for Baltimore. They want to win back trust in their brand of defense and get everyone to believe they’re true playoff contenders. The focus will likely shift toward making necessary adjustments both on defense and offense to regain their footing.
Seahawks Finding Their Rhythm
The Seattle Seahawks have been riding a three-game winning streak with new quarterback Sam Darnold at the helm. Darnold’s mystifying play made the offense full of swagger, and an offense shown to be able to shift mid-game when it matters most.
The Seahawks themselves will be looking to capitalize on the wave of positive energy. They want to entrench themselves even more firmly in today’s highly competitive NFC West division. Maintaining this level of play should boost the Sounders greatly as they must continue to face tough opponents in the future.
