Justin Fields Returns as Jets Prepare for Dolphins Showdown

For the New York Jets, the return of QB Justin Fields should do wonders for the young signal-caller. He isn’t expected to start against the Miami Dolphins on Monday night. Fields was under the NFL’s concussion protocol for more than a week. As of this point, he has practiced fully for zero full days and was cleared late Friday by one of the NFL’s independent neurologists.

Fields suffered a concussion in the Jets’ Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, his head bounced off the turf after a powerful tackle by defensive end Joey Bosa. This injury kept him out of one game. Injuries aside, it was a huge blow to the young quarterback’s breakout season.

In that first game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Fields’ potential was clear as he went 16 for 22 with 218 passing yards. He eventually impressed the crowd with his feet, rushing for two touchdowns and throwing another. In the following game he was horrendous. His Total QBR of 1.0 was a career-low, as he completed 3 passes on 11 attempts for just 27 yards before leaving the game with a concussion.

Fields admitted it was a struggle while he was in the protocol.

“Migraines throughout the day, sensitivity to light, that was a big one. I couldn’t really focus.” – Justin Fields

The Jets would sign Fields as a free agent on a two-year, $40 million contract with $30 million guaranteed. This season could mean everything for him. He’s still got a one-year audition to show he’s the franchise’s long-term answer under center.

As the Jets get ready to face the Dolphins, no matter which team, every game is a huge moment for Fields. The team aims to determine if he can consistently deliver the performance needed to secure his position and help lead them to victory.

“He’s a dynamic runner. He’s a smart player.” – Coach Aaron Glenn

With Fields back under center, the Jets are looking to continue what they showed early in their season’s potential and not let it slip through their fingers again. Fields and the Bears are looking ahead to a make-or-break Week 6 clash against their divisional rivals. Fans can’t wait to see if he can reproduce his phenomenal debut and prove himself in high-pressure situations.

With Fields back in the lineup, the Jets hope to build on their early-season potential and avoid further setbacks. As they face an important matchup against divisional rivals, all eyes will be on Fields to see if he can replicate his opening game success and deliver under pressure.
