U.S. Team Set to Compete with Europe at Ryder Cup

Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas will kick off the U.S. team’s campaign at the Ryder Cup, facing off against Europe in the first match of foursomes at 7:10 a.m. ET on Friday. The international golfing event, which features the best players from Europe and the United States, is being held at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club outside Rome.

The Europeans are desperate to keep hold of the Ryder Cup, requiring 14 points to do so. On the other side, the Americans are starving to get the trophy back, needing just 14½ points to accomplish that task. The previous Ryder Cup was held in 2021, with Europe winning by a score of 16½-11½.

In that first opening foursome match, DeChambeau and Thomas are going to see a heavy-hitting European combo. They’ll face the duo of Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood. Neither McIlroy or Fleetwood have lost a single match at the past two Ryder Cups. Their combined technical ability, style, and chemistry present an intense test for the U.S. duo.

Meanwhile, the U.S. team is preparing for their second round match. Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley vs. Ludvig Åberg and Matt Fitzpatrick. Collin Morikawa and Harris English will be the third match on Saturday. Collectively, they become the dynamic duo tasked with protecting the quarterback’s blindside and helping their team score important touchdowns.

Europe’s Åberg and Viktor Hovland have already established their authority taking their first foursomes match 4-and-3. Along the way, they routed Scheffler and Brooks Koepka to a stunning defeat. They ended it in dominant fashion, winning 9-and-7 in only 11 holes on Saturday.

Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka, who won their first session, 2-and-1, and went on to win individually themselves. Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele prepare to face off against Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland. The last match of the day should prove exciting as well!

In one format or another, the same matches will work through Saturday, before eventually coming to a head with 12 singles matches on Sunday.

Luke Donald, captain of the European team, stated that he wanted his team to get off to a fast start in the tournament.

“We want to start strong, obviously,” – Luke Donald

Keegan Bradley explained what made his teammates Bryson DeChambeau and Justin Thomas as strong as they were.

“Besides the fact that they’re both phenomenal players, they both bring a spark to our team,” – Keegan Bradley

The feud is thickening at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. Either way, both teams will be looking to bring home one of golf’s most coveted prizes! The joy expressed by the new players and the fans has been seen throughout this historic journey, with everyone awaiting the opening matches of this inaugural competition.
