The Cleveland Browns have made a significant impact in the NFL this season with their formidable defense, which has emerged as one of the best in the league. The Browns’ defense has already totaled 11 sacks on the season. That eye-popping number ties them for second in the entire league, behind only the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams, who somehow both have 12 sacks. This outstanding performance is a testament to the teamwork that helped the Georgia team achieve such a competitive score. Nine individual players have notched at least one-half sack, tying them with the Atlanta Falcons for the most in the NFL.
In their last outing against the Green Bay Packers, the Cleveland Browns put their defensive dominance on full display. They sacked Packers QB Jordan Love a career-high five times. This game was an indicator of the strategic, execution-based aggressive pressure that has been their defensive play all season. Head Coach Kevin Stefanski noted, “I think our defense is playing at a high level,” highlighting the team’s commitment to excellence on that side of the ball.
Those stats are equally as impressive in illustrating what the Browns’ defense is capable of. They rank first in the league in pass rush win rate. On top of that, they lead the league in run stop win rate, further illustrating their field terrorizing prowess. Myles Garrett, the face of the defense and a pivotal player, leads the unit with four sacks and ranks second in the NFL. His potential to disrupt opposing offenses has proved key to the team’s success.
Cleveland’s run defense has been historic this season. They enable only 57.3 ypg, the fewest in the NFL. In their most recent meeting, they completely shut down superstar RB Josh Jacobs. He couldn’t even get 30 rushing yards, his fewest since Week 2 of this year. This accomplishment is just the latest example of how successful the Browns’ defensive approach has been.
And don’t sleep on rookie sensation Carson Schwesinger who has joined the party — he’s tied for first all rookies with 21 tackles. His efforts have ensured the quality and strength of the depths of the Browns’ roster. Isaiah McGuire leads the FBS in pass rush win rate. He’s a terrific player who regularly shows off that franchise-caliber ability to make quarterbacks’ lives miserable.
Yet in addition to the Cleveland Browns‘ defense just dominating statistically, their opponents have said they have the most feared defense out there. Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur acknowledged their challenge during their recent game, stating, “They made it a challenge, and that’s a good defense.” This acknowledgement from opposing offenses further cements the national perception of how highly Brown’s defense is regarded throughout the league.
Greg Newsome II, a member of the defensive squad, expressed optimism about their ongoing performance: “Grant got that first one for us, and I think they’ll start coming in bunches.” The Browns’ defense is riding a ton of momentum. They do one thing in particular that’s so important; they always build on that success week after week.
