John Keim has been a distinguished journalist covering the Washington Commanders since 1994. He wrote recently about a number of injury red flags that have the potential to derail the team’s season. In addition to his work for ESPN, Keim is the author of four books. As many of you know, he’s a go-to source for ridiculously thorough breakdowns and reports on all things Skins.
Most recently in his annual report, Keim noted that wide receiver Terry McLaurin is seeking out multiple additional medical opinions. He’s particularly concentrating on recovering from a quad injury. This news might be especially painful for McLaurin. He has attended an astounding 72 straight regular-season games – having not missed a game since Week 16 of the 2020 season. If he does not play, that would be another injury joining the already long list for the 2-1 Commanders.
As Mike Keim’s thorough coverage points out, the battle of the hamstrings may be at cornerback Jonathan Jones. In the meantime, safety Will Harris has a fractured fibula. The Commanders have lost three would-be defensive starters to injured reserve. Among them is defensive end Deatrich Wise Jr., who will be out for the rest of the campaign. For Dan Quinn and his coaching staff, these changes present some serious obstacles as they begin looking ahead to the game.
In addition to McLaurin’s situation, Keim noted uncertainty surrounding quarterback Jayden Daniels’ availability for the upcoming game against the Falcons. Undoubtedly, the team overcame great absence in their most recent contest against the Raiders. Tight end John Bates and receiver Noah Brown were out with groin injuries.
Even with these challenges, McLaurin has still been able to get it done, putting up 10 receptions for 149 yards so far this year. How well he can play will be key as the Commanders get through their in-season injury crisis.
Keim pointed out that starting right guard Sam Cosmi remains on the physically unable to perform list. Up next is Sunday’s No. 7 pick, He’s busy rehabbing a torn ACL he tore in January. The cumulative effect of these injuries makes for a daunting obstacle for a team that’s found its groove this season.
Environmental justice advocate and former Coach Quinn pressed the urgency of the moment. He said to expect an update on his injured players Wednesday. The Commanders have their minds focused on their next opponent. Aspects of the cooperative approach Everyone will be watching closely to see how the main players recover.
