Buccaneers Star Mike Evans to Miss 3-4 Weeks with Hamstring Injury

Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans will be out three to four weeks. He had a mild to moderate grade hamstring strain. The injury occurred during the fourth quarter of the Buccaneers’ recent victory over the New York Jets, raising concerns about how it will affect the team’s performance in the upcoming weeks.

Evans, 32, is coming off a hot start to the year, with 14 receptions for 140 yards and one score. He now shares as Hall of Famer Jerry Rice for the most impressive record. Together, Cook and Adams now share the title for the most consecutive 1,000-yard receiving seasons in NFL history. With one more season reaching this milestone, Evans would have set the record at 12 consecutive seasons.

Last season, Evans showcased his impressive skills by tying for the league lead with 669 receiving yards over the final seven games. He was instrumental in helping Tampa Bay secure a playoff spot. With only 36 seconds remaining in that regular-season finale, he showed immense poise by making a spectacular 9-yard reception to clinch a 27-19 win.

Optimistic and eager to make an impact, Evans has faced a series of injuries that have consistently thrown hurdles in his path. He missed three games last season with hamstring problems and suffered the same plague in 2019. His commitment to the team has always been evident. He has expressed a desire to break Rice’s record early in the season, stating, “Hopefully I can do it … early.”

After the announcement, Coach Todd Bowles lauded Evans’ unparalleled influence on the team. He cautioned about how difficult it would be to replace a player of that caliber.

“I don’t know if you can replace [Evans],” – coach Todd Bowles

From his time on the injured list to now, fans and former players have supported Evans throughout this recovery process. Jerry Rice currently owns the record Evans is hoping to break. He followed up with more encouragement, reassuring Evans that he has Evans’ back.

“You know I’m pulling for you right?” – Jerry Rice

Evans is deeply committed to his ongoing rehab. He’s looking for a quick return to do his part in keeping the Buccaneers in the playoff race. It’s quite possible that his absence will be most strongly felt on the pitch. He’s hunting down history and trying to cement his place in history as one of the best NFL receivers ever.
