Welcome to Mic’d Up, where our newest Eagles will attempt to tackle Dak Prescott and the Cowboys, this Sunday night. This upcoming matchup leaves the Green Bay Packers linebacker in a tough spot. Parsons’ first trip to AT&T Stadium as an opponent should be an exciting one. It definitely sets the stage for what should be an exciting matchup against his former collegiate teammate and close friend. Given the highly personal stakes involved, Parsons plans to approach the game similar to any other, with heavy emphasis on focusing on his own performance.
Parsons, who was picked up by the Packers earlier this season, conceded that taking down Prescott presents quite the conundrum. He told me the experience was bittersweet. “It’s going to be painful. That’s my guy. He was always like a good mentor for me,” he stated during a conversation with The Associated Press on Tuesday. He shared his enthusiasm for the newfound opportunity. He added that Prescott has always pushed him to view their meetings as overall marquee matchups.
After all, the Packers just suffered a brutal defeat of their own, losing 13-10 against the Cleveland Browns in that Week 3. Today, though, they are preparing for the rematch coming up. Parsons has taken a huge leap since coming to Green Bay. He was instrumental in securing a 27-18 defensive victory over the then Washington Commanders while playing a key role in holding the high-powered Detroit Lions offense to just 13 points and securing a 27-13 Week 1 victory. His mark has been made, as he has soon become a centerpiece for the man.
Parsons had missed all of training camp and arrived in Green Bay only a week before the first game. He attributes his otherworldly transition largely to his teammates and coaching staff for their role in making it a smooth one. “Besides the fans, just the teammates, the support staff, I mean they made this transition so great and I’m just extremely honored and blessed to be with such a great group of guys that want to win,” he remarked.
Despite all the hype surrounding this clash, Parsons knows he needs to stay locked in. Just like you, I resigned myself to sadness weeks ago when the trade went down. So, for me, it’s just all about playing another game and just doing what I do best, and that’s just be a disruptive football player,” he said. He thinks media speculation is overhyped this potential matchup. To him, it’s simply another opportunity to race.
As Parsons prepares for his big performance on Sunday night, he knows that he’s carrying the burden of his relationships. He remains focused and very intent on doing his part on the field. The challenge of taking on Prescott brings an exciting twist to what should be an exciting game.
