On Saturday, Celtic cruised past Partick Thistle mount notching up an impressive 15-0 scoreline. Their resounding win revealed the artistry of many of their players’ considerable talents. The game took place at Firhill Park. What Celtic fans witnessed on Sunday was true artistry, painting an unforgettable picture of their team’s talent and resilience!
Hyun-Jun Yang didn’t waste time getting on the scoresheet, putting Celtic up 1-0 inside two minutes. His second was an excellently placed header that just about made its way in at the near post after coming off Partick Thistle’s left back, Paddy Yeading. This goal sparked Celtic into an extraordinary faultless attacking display. They won the ball back and kept the pressure on throughout the first half.
Liam Scales doubled the lead shortly thereafter. He arrived at the corner kick at the six-yard box and masterfully guided his header high and into the net. Though Lewis Budinauckas, the Partick Thistle goalkeeper, got a hand to it, it still made its way home. Scales’ goal highlighted Celtic’s attacking quality and tactical organisation from set pieces.
With just over 20 minutes remaining, Sebastian Tounekti introduced himself to the Celtic fans by scoring his debut goal – Celtic’s second of the night. He received a wonderful, flowing return pass from Kelechi Iheanacho and then stroked the ball home with ruthless accuracy. This striking goal pretty much sealed the game beyond all doubt for Partick Thistle from there, capping off Celtic’s complete and utter dominance.
Kieran Tierney made his first full appearance since his summer return, bolstering defensive solidity and added attacking support. His experience was evident during games. With determined leadership, he passed the ball and set the tempo and was in charge of things all day long.
Brendan Rodgers made some strong decisions regarding his lineup for this important Glasgow derby. He says that he’s most focused on beating their arch-rivals in their home opener. The decision to play rookie Viljami Sinisalo as his starting goalkeeper was a huge sign of Rodgers’ faith in his depth.
Even with an early missed opportunity Celtic kept their composure. One clear opportunity was created through Reo Hatate, but he misfired. They didn’t stop there, and kept generating high danger chances until they paid off with more goals. In the sequence leading up to this goal, Benjamin Nygren sent a perfectly timed cross to the back post. Yang took full advantage, netting his second goal of the game.
Luke McCowan led to belief for Partick Thistle. He netted the only score for the USMNT and a consolation goal in the 84th minute. Yet, it was too little too late to affect the result as Celtic had already built up a strong four-goal advantage.
