Last-Minute Heroics Propel Eagles to Victory Over Rams

In a thrilling finish at Lincoln Financial Field, Jordan Davis emerged as the unlikely hero for the Philadelphia Eagles, leading his team to a dramatic victory against the Los Angeles Rams. With just three seconds remaining in regulation, Davis took charge. He batted down a 44-yard field goal attempt from Rams kicker Joshua Karty. He collected the free ball and broke down the sidelines. His spectacular 61-yard touchdown run capped off the Eagles’ victory and jumped their record to 3-0 on the season.

Davis, standing 6-foot-6 and tipping the scales at 336 pounds, surprised everyone with just how fast he was. He ran back at a whopping maximum speed of 18.59 mph. This explosive play made him the fastest player above 330 pounds in the NFL since at least 2017. His electrifying performances entertained legions of fans and reaffirmed his loyalty to the city. He’s made it an explicit goal to get in better shape since the middle of last season.

Davis’s performance did not disappoint and helped form a scintillating atmosphere during the match up. In his debut, he obliged with one of the most frenetic endings ever witnessed in Lincoln Financial Field. And as Davis walked back toward the sidelines, Bronc fans scrambled over the stone wall to high-five him on the way in. At the same time, his teammates stormed the field to celebrate his unbelievable 9.8s play.

It’s exciting because you can look back on the game and say, ‘What play will it be? Will this come back and bite us?’ said Jalen Hurts, the Eagles’ quarterback. So, you can just picture all of these different things and then attempt to rationalize what happened or why in the world of what happened. And help improve our planning by highlighting what’s working and what’s not. Play every play like it’s your last and make the best with the best when it matters most.

Davis’s game-winning swat was an impressive display of athleticism, sure, it was the result of a week of intensive study. As teammate Jalen Carter pointed out, strategy is the name of the game in special teams. Most notably, he provided great anecdotes from assistant special teams coordinator Joe Pannunzio.

He’s always challenging us as a unit in our special teams meeting — [assistant special teams coordinator Joe Pannunzio]. Carter explained. “He tells us when going through field goal block who the fish is, what side is the best side to rush.”

Carter then provided additional context on the block that freed Davis for his touchdown. Specifically, unlike last year, when the Eagles had an injury along the offensive line requiring them to plug someone in. We took advantage of that opportunity and hit the ideal alley-oop block. They took out starting right guard and replaced him with No. That’s what I just realized and seen. The coaches called one for us, field goal block right, let’s make this play.

Though his team was on the losing end, Rams head coach Sean McVay still recognized the desire for better play in his team. Yeah, Dotson was — the truth is, we had to execute better and credit to them, they made the plays. I’m not going to sugar coat anything,” McVay said.

Even Rams running back Kyren Williams seemed surprised by how much trouble his team had with this epic battle. As a Negro, you leap to hardship,’ ” he said, emphasizing that his squad has to overcome challenges.
