Michael Kim Claims Historic French Open Victory

On Sunday, Michael Kim became the first Korean-American to win a PGA Tour event. He became only the first American golfer in 53 years to win the French Open. His win at Le Golf National is his first international victory since 2018. It was that year and it was his last victory on the PGA Tour at the John Deere Classic. This dramatic victory emphasizes Kim’s comeback spirit and ensures that he has carved out an unforgettable chapter in the annals of golf.

Kim clinched his win in dramatic style. Hadley’s most important putt of the day, a 15-footer for par on the last hole, was enough to earn him a one-shot victory over his nearest competitors. He capped his tournament with a sparkling 16-under par, ending with a 6-under 65 in his final round. He beat out Elvis Smylie from Australia and Ko Jeong-weon from France. They both made good on that promise, firing stunning 65s to tie for second.

In those incredibly tense closing moments, Kim faced a very difficult bunker shot on the par-3 No. He wonderfully managed to leave the ball short of the hole. After regaining his composure, he settled himself and confidently rolled the par saving putt into the heart of the cup. With this heart-pounding finish, his name would go down in history. Despite a hard run for the money, Kim has had a nasty 2023 so far. He had missed the cut at both the Irish Open and the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth prior to this win.

Ranked 64th going into this tournament, it is safe to say that Kim’s path to victory hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing. Earlier on a very wet Tuesday, he fired a terrific 68 to momentarily take fourth place in the professional event. But Finger’s persistence proved worthwhile in the winner-take-all final round, where he pulled to the front. Kim’s former victory at the John Deere Classic proved his talent as a budding force on the course. He ended up winning the tournament by the astounding margin of 8 shots.

The importance of Kim’s victory goes beyond his personal success. It represents a historic moment for American golf. Barry Jaeckel – the last American to win the French Open singles title all the way back in 1972. Walter Hagen and Byron Nelson are just two of the other great U.S. players to have once enjoyed the prestigious title.

Michael Kim’s athleticism is on display at the 2017 John Deere Classic. These days, he’s better known as an unexpected social media star—making waves with a viral influence that takes his impact even further. His story and his ability to connect with everyone who’s become aware of him certainly add a different dimension to his success.
