The Seattle Seahawks are in for a dose of reality. Rookie running back Zach Charbonnet is doubtful for their game against the New Orleans Saints on Sunday. Charbonnet, for his part, has shown big-play potential in his first two NFL games. Unfortunately, he will miss all three practices this week due to a foot injury he suffered in the team’s victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Charbonnet has split the starting role in the Seahawks backfield with fellow running back, Ken Walker III. Through two games, Charbonnet has played 66 total snaps with 14 total touches for 57 scrimmage yards and one touchdown. Walker has been as explosive as any back, gathering 142 scrimmage yards on only 14 touches. His performance featured a key 19-yard touchdown run that clinched the win over Pittsburgh.
With Charbonnet gone, Walker will have the stage to himself. He’s proved he is more than capable of being the main guy’s primary backup. If they did want to raise someone, D’Anthony Bell would be the obvious choice. He’s supposed to see a much bigger role in the offense this week.
As in the loss to Georgia, Derion Kendrick was the man at slot cornerback. Meanwhile, Josh Jobe replaced Witherspoon, who missed the game with an injury. The Seahawks are going through unique adversity heading into their big game with the Saints. This reshuffling of the new lineup underscores those challenges.
“but we’re trying to do everything we possibly can to win this game.” – Mike Macdonald
For now, the Seahawks hope to build off Charbonnet’s promising debut while keeping a finger crossed over concerns about his health. Coach Mike Macdonald is supremely confident in his team’s adaptability. They are focused and hungry to win hard-fought battles and achieve success against a well-resourced adversary.
