Cricket fans around the world held their breath as both sides prepared to enter this tournament in blistering form.
Farhan quickly established himself as a key player for Pakistan, scoring 67 runs. He was finally dismissed caught by Muhammad Zohaib and bowled by his brother Junaid Siddique. His innings was key to holding the innings together, particularly with other batsmen finding it hard to get going.
Saim, though, was unfortunately one of the early wickets to fall, scoring a duck. He fell to Muhammad Rohid Khan, bowled by Siddique, a bad start kind of day for the squad. Fakhar fouled his own No. 1 spot in the 2021 rankings by making just 89 runs with bat. His innings ended when he was caught by Kaushik. Singh Kang bowled him out just as he was approaching his century.
Unfortunately Agha’s homecoming performance wasn’t a memorable one as he scored just 7 runs. He too fell, this time victim to Haider Ali and bowled by Parashar. Hasan’s defeat was a difficult test when he received the leg before wicket. Singh Kang then bowled him out, giving Hasan a forgettable duck.
In a more cheerful turn for Pakistan, Khushdil produced a batting masterclass to blaze away Pakistan’s hopes. He even equaled Farhan’s accomplishment by scoring an equally spectacular 67 runs. His innings came to a close when he was caught out by Muhammad Waseem. When Novash Singh Kang bowled him out, it emphasized a growing pressure on the batting order.
Haris went on to add key runs with the bat, adding 57 runs in total before he was bowled out by Junaid Siddique. These players provided a very mixed bag back to the team. As in previous years, their performance exposed clear highs and lows.
M Nawaz had a poor performance, not being able to score any runs in the test match. Other players have floundered and underperformed their expectations. As they head further into the tournament, this has led to big questions about the team’s batting approach.
