Jaxson Dart Remains Focused Amidst Calls for Quarterback Change

On Friday, Jaxson Dart, the New York Giants second-string QB, was addressing the media. He reiterated his commitment to developing new starting quarterback Wilson, despite fans and pundits calling more and more for a switch. Many of us saw them last weekend when the Giants lost severely 21-6 to the Washington Commanders. In that loss, Wilson amassed just 168 yards on 17 completions, raising doubts on his effectiveness even further. For Dart, who is always readying himself for his next moment, the priority continues to be on being a great teammate.

Dart noted that the conversation around potential changes in the starting lineup often escalates when the team does not secure a win. “It’s completely different if you win. Take everything you read with a grain of salt. My job is to try to worry about the things I can control and be the best possible teammate,” he said.

Next up for the Giants are the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday. In the meantime, Dart was named the new No. 2 quarterback and has been working hard as the scout team quarterback this week in practice. His position required him to be an effective scout for Dallas’ new star quarterback Dak Prescott, which helped him develop a better feel for the game.

In short, Dart is prepared to capitalize on any chance that he is given to shine. He realizes that the NFL franchise needs to be patient as they build their decision matrix. Left tackle Andrew Thomas has officially been ruled out for the game. His absence—in doubt last week, too—makes it even more complicated. Freshman Jaxson Hudson III is the most likely candidate to replace Thomas in the lineup. This move may help Wilson reach new heights and change the offensive game plan completely.

Giants management appears committed to allowing Wilson time to improve and develop, preferring to avoid rushing Dart into a starting role prematurely. “New York would prefer to continue to be patient, let Wilson play well and give Jaxson Dart the time he needs to develop,” sources indicated.

The media landscape certainly hasn’t gone quietly on this issue. Included in that author list is none other than sports commentator Stephen A. Smith, who recently proclaimed that Dart should be the starting quarterback sooner than later. Circumstances of this commentary have largely played a role in adding to the dawning pressure on Wilson as well as this coaching staff.

“I’m just preparing for whatever chance I get. So there is not a specific game plan or something like that. It’s me just trying to be prepared and be ready whenever my number is called.”
