It was a typical Chris Lynn performance in a LiveT20 Blast that sent social media into a frenzy. His tremendous performance powered Hampshire to a comprehensive victory against Northants. The final took place at the Ageas Bowl. Hampshire’s batsmen went after the stiff target of 155 from the start, with stakes made and found by booming boundaries and working the angles.
As the match was opened by David Willey, captain of Northants, who bowled Toby Albert to end his over. Albert hit the ground running, getting Willey’s opening delivery up and over the top of mid-off for four. However, confusion soon arose when he hesitated to run for a single after hitting another shot towards cover, a decision that could have cost Hampshire valuable runs.
As the match wore on, Queenslander Chris Lynn arrived at the crease. He had no trouble in getting his eye in, and with one shot through cover reached the boundary and roused the crowd. Willey pitched a bouncer directly to Lynn. The veteran, however, was undeterred and displayed his class by launching a superb six over long on. As if on cue, Lynn’s fireworks display continued, the muscular Queenslander whacking another ball over long-on for six and the crowds were roaring now.
The Northants bowling attack geniusly as well as valiently tried to enforce Lynn into submission. Please note, Willey himself took the catch of the day, producing a stunning one-handed low catch off his own bowling. He wanted to change the momentum back in his team’s favor. Saif Zaib’s left-arm spin was a masterstroke from Northants. Zaib’s delivery to oust Toby Albert brought Northants briefly back into contention.
In the middle order, Luke Procter top scored with 30 runs before being bowled by Currie’s menace. His dismissal was another blow for Northants as Hampshire continued to take control of the match. In the meantime Chris Lynn kept blazing an early trail, quickly advancing him onto his pad and hammering a full ball down the ground for another four. Each over piled the pressure on the Northants bowlers with every run from the Hampshire batters seeming to flow effortlessly.
James Vince accompanied Lynn to the wicket. He announced his arrival immediately, crunching a lovely cover drive beyond extra cover on its way to the boundary. With Lynn’s power hitting and Vince’s fluid, classic strokes, they made a great 1-2 punch. Collectively, they departed Northants looking for solutions. Lynn’s performance culminated in a stunning display as he cleared the front dog and sent a massive shot into the Hollies Stand, further solidifying Hampshire’s dominance in the match.
As Hampshire neared their target, the mood became more tense and electric. The home crowd was completely in awe as their team put on a fast and furious show, led by Lynn’s extraordinary display of athleticism. With each boundary, reaching that goal of 155 became more and more achievable.
