Friday afternoon brought the first opportunity for Chiefs media to speak with Tyreek Hill. This came on the heels of the release of domestic abuse accusations against his estranged wife, Keeta Vaccaro. Hill, the star wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins, acknowledged that he hasn’t spoken to the league about the accusations. He reiterated his commitment to football and expressed that he is happy in Miami despite ongoing trade rumors.
Speaking about the situation, Hill stated, “I don’t really pay attention to any of that.” While he wasn’t sure what the future held in store for him with the NFL, he said he was ready for “whatever comes, comes.” This bottom line approach embodies Hill’s wish to focus on his performance and responsibility between the lines.
In light of a disappointing 33-8 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, Hill and his teammates have been under scrutiny. In that contest, Hill topped the team in receptions and receiving yards with four catches for 40 yards. To foster accountability and team cohesion, Miami’s team captains called for a players-only meeting on Tuesday, the team’s off day. Hill wasn’t one of the players voted captain this season, but told the University’s initiative his unwavering support.
“The standard is the standard each and every day,” – Tyreek Hill
Hill believes that this meeting will play a significant role in the team’s success as they prepare to host the New England Patriots in Week 2. He mentioned, “Man, we got a real good shot at winning this week,” highlighting his optimism about their upcoming performance.
He refused to discuss the divorce proceedings and the domestic violence claims contained in the now sealed court papers acquired by TMZ. Hill now is all about what’s most important to him, taking care of his family and playing football. He stated, “My focus right now is just playing ball, and spending time with my kids and just doing what I’m best at: providing for my family.”
