Ben Johnson, head coach of the Chicago Bears, is returning to Ford Field in a major way. He will be along this Sunday. It’ll be his first trip back to Detroit’s Ford Field on the opposing sideline, against his former team, the Detroit Lions. He served as their offensive coordinator from 2022 to 2024.
In his time with the Lions, Johnson was instrumental in reshaping the Lions offense. During his time, he oversaw the development of talented wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown into back-to-back first-team All-Pro seasons. Chiefly, the Lions averaged an eye-popping 29.0 points per game during Johnson’s three-season tenure — a result that led the entire NFL! Perhaps most impressively, last year they scored 33.2 points per game – their most since 1954 – on the way to a record-setting 15-win season.
As the Lions prepare to face the Bears at 1 p.m. ET on Fox, emotions are running high among players and fans alike. His teammate and friend Amon-Ra St. Brown had some complicated emotions about the reunion.
