Despite this success, he did not secure a starting position with the Jaguars, where he faced competition from other backs. His unexpected trade to the Eagles provides the perfect new opportunity for him to do so. Pairing him with Will Shipley, though, he could really shine in kick return duty.
As evidence of his quickness and game-changing speed, 11 of Bigsby’s career kicks have gone back to the house. Shouldering the punting load this past season would give him valuable experience as the Eagles look for ways to upgrade their return game. Bigsby’s elite running skills shine, but he has no impact in the passing game. Combined with only having recorded eight receptions in his career and only pass blocking on 33 snaps, Cohen’s size is definitely a concern. Whether or not this negates his potential overall impact in the Eagles’ offensive scheme is an interesting discussion.
The Eagles’ decision to trade for Bigsby included sending a fifth- and sixth-round pick to the Jaguars, indicating a belief in his potential to contribute despite not starting in Jacksonville. His contract leaves him under team control for one more rookie year, through 2026.
