Josh Giddey Signs Four-Year $100 Million Deal with Chicago Bulls

Josh Giddey, the incredibly versatile point guard, has promised the Chicago Bulls He signed a four year, $100 million contract to stay on with the team to complete the process he’d begun. This decision follows an impressive contract year that cemented his status as a building block for the roster. Giddey was picked with the sixth overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder. Now, he’s poised to finally make a big splash in Chicago.

Giddey made his mark to start his career by being the youngest player in NBA history to get a triple-double. He became the youngest player ever to achieve this remarkable feat at just 19 years and 84 days old. The best example is on January 2, 2022, when he put on a masterclass versus the Dallas Mavericks. He put up 17 points, 14 assists, and 13 rebounds while flashing his immense upside, towering and gliding over defenders. Transitioning to the Bulls during the 2024 offseason in exchange for Alex Caruso, Giddey quickly adapted to his new environment.

In his short stint with the Bulls, Giddey flashed his prodigious talent. He averaged 21.2 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 9.3 assists a game while shooting 50% from the field and 46% from deep. His knack for play-making showed as he notched seven triple-doubles. His 247 total ranks as the second-highest single-season total in Bulls history.

On March 22, Giddey became the youngest player in history to record a triple-double in a game against the Los Angeles Lakers. He finished with the first 15-15-10-8 game in an NBA game (points-assists-rebounds-steals) since steals became a recorded stat in the 1973-74 season. His play dramatically improved post All-Star break. After the trade of Zach LaVine, Dunn truly wowed fans with a line of 20.6 points, 10.7 rebounds and 9.7 assists in his final 20 games of the season.

Giddey experienced some recent adversity, including a muscle tear in his shooting hand during the last month of the season. Even with this challenge, he responded with tremendous spirit and resolve. He ended the year with other strong career-high averages: 14.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. On top of that, he raised his three-point shooting percentage to 37.8%.

At just 22 years old, Giddey’s new contract cements his status as a cornerstone for the Bulls at starting point guard. He’s now the second September restricted free agent to sign a deal this month. This accomplishment only serves to amplify his stature within the franchise.
