Bo Nix Reflects on Performance Despite Broncos’ Victory Over Titans

Bo Nix, quarterback for the Denver Broncos, successfully led his team to a 20-12 victory against the Tennessee Titans at Empower Field at Mile High on Sunday. That victory would be overshadowed by Nix’s ineffectiveness. He had three turnovers, and he’s adamant about correcting those mistakes going forward.

In that game, Nix completed 25 of his 40 attempts for a measly 176 yards. He hooked up with rookie wide receiver Courtland Sutton on a short touchdown pass. In spite of those numbers, his performance will be most remembered by two interceptions thrown and a lost fumble. This was the second time in his 18-game career that Nix had a three-turnover game.

Produced the first interception, thrown by Desmond Ridder, and the second, thrown to Roger McCreary. Titans’ defenseman Jeffery Simmons posted a crushing sack that resulted in a fumble in the second quarter. That expensive error gave Tennessee the ball at the Broncos 38-yard line.

This fumble was especially notable as it was Nix’s first lost fumble since his junior year at Auburn in 2021. Last year, he began his season with four interceptions in his first two games, but he managed to throw only two interceptions in the following ten games combined.

Nix has realized the difficulties ahead of him now that opposing defenses are adjusting to take away his favorite throws. She also noted that it is critical to act in a restorative way after the harm of mistakes.

“You don’t ever want to throw interceptions. As tough as it is, you’ve just got to move on and respond with positive plays after that,” said Nix.

Seemingly unfazed by an insufficient performance, he talked about his desire to do better and if even with more purpose, thought and heart.

“I think I’m tougher on myself now because you do know better,” he noted.

Even with all his turnovers, Nix was under the impression that he performed well in the second half of the game. He credited the Broncos’ rushing attack for their late-game success, with RJ Harvey and J.K. Dobbins contributing 91 yards in the final quarter.

Nix remarked on the need to take care of the football, particularly given the strengths of the Broncos’ defense.

“I have to take care of the football, especially with our defense. Can’t put them in bad spots,” he stated.

Sean Payton praised Nix for his resilience during the game, noting his ability to make critical plays when it mattered most.

“I thought [Nix] hung in there, he battled he made some critical plays for us in the second half,” Payton said.

Though the Broncos have their sights set on their next opponent, Nix isn’t taking his foot off the gas when it comes to perfecting his craft. He knows that interceptions are an unfortunate part of the quarterbacking experience, but the hope and intent is for him to have fewer going forward.

“Every year of my career I’ve thrown a pick, and as much as you don’t want [to], I’m probably going to throw one every year I play, so just got to limit them,” he explained.
