Micah Parsons Listed as Questionable for Season Opener Against Lions

Hot topic Micah Parsons recently made waves when he was traded from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers. Now, he’s listed as questionable ahead of the team’s regular-season opener against the Detroit Lions on Sunday. This announcement comes a week after Parsons’ participation in all four practices in his first week of service with the Packers. He participated on a small scale. His team is expected to make a decision on his status closer to game time.

Parsons had previously been dealing with a recurring back injury. Because of that, he missed all of the offseason practices and training camp leading up to his trade to Green Bay last week. His arrival is a franchise changing moment for him and the Packers. They’re particularly pleased to add him to what they hope will soon be one of the best defensive lineups around.

In a sign that Parsons was indeed nearing health, during the past week he finished a steroid treatment for his back that had been initiated before the trade. He spoke with enthusiasm about how this ongoing process was going to help him recover and return to good health.

“We finished the [steroid] pack, and hopefully that works plus treatment to get me back to 100,” – Micah Parsons

The defensive coaching staff is eager to see what Parsons can do as he works his way back to 100 percent. As for the unexpected departure, DC Jeff Hafley had this to say,

“I have a lot of drawings packed away for when he is ramped up and ready to go. But for now it’s just kind of getting a glimpse of what [it] is going to be and trying to figure out early what he can do best, what he can do right now, and what gives our team the best chance to have success.”

Parsons by all accounts was an absolute monster as a linebacker with the Cowboys. The Packers are hopeful that he’ll do just that—import that same fire and ferocity to help beef up their high-powered defense. The team will defer to the new coaching staff on how to use Parsons in Week 1. They rely on their own judgment to determine what the best decision is.

As game day approaches, fans, players and coaches will all be waiting on the Parsons’ decision on whether or not he will play against the Lions this weekend. His presence on the field would change the approach of opposing offenses and allow the Packers to use their full defensive arsenal.
