In a hard-fought NFC East battle, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Dallas Cowboys 24-20 in their highly anticipated season opener. The game was held in Philadelphia at Lincoln Financial Field. The stakes were high, as it was the first season-opening meeting between the rivals since 2000. Both sides wasted no time in demonstrating their attacking talent, with early goals set up by World Cup stars for both teams.
Hell, Jalen Hurts, the Eagles’ quarterback, scored two rushing touchdowns in the first half. On the other side, Cowboys RB Javonte Williams countered him with two rushing touchdowns of his own. Hurts demonstrated his mobility and skill by finding the end zone twice, while Williams matched him with impressive runs that kept the game competitive.
Barkley, too, left his mark on the first half as he got into the scoring frenzy. That one touchdown punctuated the drama of a game that was about as good as it gets without giving anyone a heart attack. Bonus point Brandon Aubrey may be new to kicking, but he made a big impression with this 53-yard boot that even doused the proverbial Texas-OU fire.
The second half turned out to be just as exciting, but it was tainted by a shocking reversal of fortune. Miles Sanders had already had a pretty remarkable 49-yard dash earlier in the game. He fumbled deep in the red zone late in the third quarter. This egregious error occurred right before a 63-minute weather delay, stalling the surge in momentum for Philadelphia.
While Dallas had their share of defensive struggles early in the game, they were finding massive success. They stepped up in the fourth quarter, generating multiple clutch stops that kept them in a position to make a comeback. Despite that spark, their heroics were not enough to offset the early lead gained by the Eagles.
