Hampshire Women narrowly defeated Essex Women by four runs in a gripping encounter that showcased the competitive spirit of women’s cricket. On a fresh, well-maintained pitch, Hampshire batted first and scored 101 runs. They would go on to lose all seven wickets in an astounding 17 overs. Essex Women made spirited efforts and ended up making 97 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Although they came within a hair breadth of winning, their tenacity was on compelling display.
In what proved to be a thrilling encounter, Somerset Women defeated Lancashire Women by five wickets on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. Lancashire’s low but challenging target of 169 runs for nine wickets in their full quota of 44 overs was more than competitive. Somerset responded with determination, achieving 167 runs for five wickets in just 34.2 overs, securing their win with calculated aggression.
The Blaze vs Surrey Women match was washed out after heavy rain arrived over the Kent ground – no result declared. The Blaze scored an impressive total of 66 runs and lost five wickets in their allotted 16 overs. The game was subsequently stopped, meaning there was no opportunity for Surrey Women to have a bat.
To everyone’s surprise, the match between Warwickshire Women and Durham Women didn’t go ahead at all. Neither team even got the chance to fight it out, with the game called off before a ball had been bowled.
Today South Africa triumphed in dramatic style against England on the world’s biggest international stage. They only came out victorious by five runs in a nail biting one-day international! Previous winners England had posted an imposing score of 325 runs for nine wickets in their allotted 50 overs. In a furious retort, South Africa’s resolute batting order successfully pursued the target, amassing a mind-boggling 330 runs for eight wickets to win the game.
In another international fixture, Pakistan handed over a 31-run defeat to United Arab Emirates. Pakistan scored 171 runs for five wickets from their 20 overs, while the United Arab Emirates managed only 140 runs for seven wickets within the same timeframe.
In T20 action, the Saint Lucia Kings continued their solid run of form as they took down Trinbago Knight Riders, 7 wickets. The Knight Riders had an off day in the office with the bat and were bowled out for a paltry 109 in 18.1 overs. The Kings were on the back foot in the chase, and only managed 112 runs losing three wickets. They even managed to pull this remarkable victory off in only 11.1 overs!
