Hampshire spearhead Chris Wood has extended his stay with the county. He will remain with the team through at least the 2026 season. Wood, 35, arrived at Hampshire in 2010, establishing himself quickly as one of the team’s most indispensable players. He is now fondly remembered as the club’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20 matches. His experience and skills as a left-arm seamer and right-handed batsman will continue to bolster Hampshire’s efforts in upcoming competitions.
Wood has played in 189 T20 games. During this short period, he has taken some amazing 208 wickets with an average of just 25.33. His all-round contributions led Hampshire to T20 titles in 2010, 2012 and 2022. Their eyes are now firmly set on a T20 quarter-final against Durham this Friday. Wood was obviously thrilled to be able to continue his career with the soccer club.
The quarter-finals of the Blast are right around the corner, and that’s really awesome! I hope you’ll join me again on this journey with Hampshire as we approach 2026 and beyond. Wood stated. He highlighted the team’s recent performance, noting, “We’ve been playing some great cricket recently.”
The club’s faith in Wood is a sign of their ambition to continue developing a world-class squad capable of winning trophies for years to come. Wood acknowledged this support, saying, “The club has shown great faith in me, and I feel I’ve still got a big part to play in the team, and look forward to helping us build on our recent success.”
Going into the 2022-2023 management season, Hampshire and his team are optimistic. They’re hoping Wood’s experience and leadership will be crucial in their continued pursuit of another title. It will be quarter-final time, against Durham, that will serve as a true crucible for Wood. He and the players are definitely looking to keep that momentum going after a really strong last performance.
