Micah Parsons, the standout linebacker recently traded from the Dallas Cowboys, has taken significant steps toward his debut with the Green Bay Packers. Having passed a physical with flying colors, he’s done his rehab work at home and during practice weeks in Green Bay, speeding along to full health. Parsons, for one, is definitely looking ahead with big hopes for next year’s campaign. He understands that he has a few major hurdles to clear before he steps on the field against the Detroit Lions Sunday in the opener.
Ever since landing in Green Bay, Parsons has ramped up his outreach efforts. He has undergone new treatments for a chronic lower back injury that forced him to miss the previous six-month period. After making a couple of big plays on Wednesday, Parsons will tell you that full-pads practice was the first time he felt truly alive. He made his mark by getting home on a third down sack. In this podcast, he previewed the upcoming game against Detroit, dubbing it a “heavyweight fight.”
“I wanted it to be known that Dallas and Detroit already had a rivalry,” Parsons said, stressing his eagerness for the showdown during Friday’s game.
Despite feeling tightness and soreness during practice, Parsons confirmed that he has not experienced any setbacks related to his injury. He’s deeply devoted to trusting the training staff’s process as they slowly but surely start bringing plays and concepts back to him. The Packers’ defensive coordinator, Jeff Hafley, has been creatively hunting for new methods of deployment for Parsons. Arguably, he hasn’t dropped any hard knowledge on the actual game plans.
“I have faith in the training staff and coaches to get me ready,” Parsons stated, expressing confidence in their expertise.
Tuesday was initially slated to be a mandatory day off for players. What blew Parsons away was how many of his teammates had come into the facility before or after practice to receive treatment. “I came in Tuesday for treatment, and I saw like almost every guy in the locker room. This is the first time I’ve ever seen this,” he remarked, highlighting the team’s camaraderie.
Parsons is on a steroid treatment plan that started while he was with the Cowboys. This has provided unique resources to complement his recovery work as he readies his move to Green Bay. Packers’ head coach Matt LaFleur remarked how impressive it was to see Parsons do everything he was expected to do during practice today.
“I still believe that on the script we had for him going into today, I think he was pretty much able to accomplish that,” said LaFleur.
Parsons is going leaps and bounds forward! Fans and teammates, alike, are excited to see how he’ll help the team reach another level. Quarterback Jordan Love expressed enthusiasm for Parsons’ potential impact on the game, stating, “Crowd’s going to go crazy. I already see it.”
